Discussions

 

To view all discussions*:

 

1. Log into the Academy
2. Click the icon at the top of the screen, then select [Discussions]
3. A list of courses that you can comment on will be displayed.
   • If you are a learner, you will only be able to comment on courses you are enrolled on. To find out how to enrol on a course, see Learners' Guide - Course Catalogue.
   • Instructors and administrators can comment on all courses.
   • You can create discussions on all Ideagen courses. However, for courses uploaded by your organisation, you must ensure that the option to discuss the course is turned on. See Courses - Adding a Course for more information.

 

 

4. The discussion lists shows how many topics have been created against each course. Click the course name to view / contribute to the existing topics, or to create a new one.

 

* Administrators can also access the Discussion list by clicking [Discussions] on their home page.

 

To discuss a course:

 

1. Select the course you want to discuss.
2. A list of discussion topics for the course will be displayed. Either select an existing discussion or click [Start a new Discussion]
   • If you are creating a new discussion, you must provide a title. You can also post the first message in a discussion, and edit the text using the text editor. You can also upload a file if you wish
3. To add a post to an existing topic either:
   • Click the "Click to leave a message" button at the bottom of the screen, enter your message, then click [Post]. You can also upload a file if required.
   • To respond to an earlier comment, click the [Reply] button

 

 

The Academy will notify whenever someone replies to one of your comments if you have turned on the relevant notification.

 

Note: You will only be able to see discussions and comments made by people within your branch. In addition, you won't be able to see discussions created in "sibling" branches. For example, if your branch has two sub-branches called A and B, any discussions or comments made by users in Branch A will not be visible to users in Branch B.

 

 

As an administrator, you can edit or remove any topics / posts made by people within your organisation.

 

To delete an entire discussion, open the course's discussion page, then click [Delete], followed by [Delete] to confirm. Deleted discussions cannot be restored.

 

 

To edit / delete a comment, open the discussion topic and beneath the comment, click the [Edit] or [Delete] button. ;

 

Remember that you need to turn on the relevant notification if you want to be kept informed about new discussion comments. Basic Academy customers will not receive notifications about new comments.

 

 

By default, the notification to be informed about new comments is turned off. This means that neither administrators nor learners will be notified about new comments. To turn it on:

 

1. From the home page, click [Notifications]
2. Locate the message entitled "Discussion Message".
3. To activate the message, click its [Edit] button -
4. You can then choose who is notified about new messages, and the information that is added to the notification
5. Click [Update] to save your changes and turn the message on

Please note that while basic customers can use the discussions feature, they cannot turn on notifications.
